Hence we could observe the more fancy and costly neighbourhoods of that time.

A more advanced feature could be to check the number of occurrences of their names in the newspaper of that time, and find out who was the most famous.

The same could be done for the year 1908. The “annuaire du grand monde” of that year is more interesting because it contains more information about the people (i.e. their job).

An interactive map where red points represent important people addresses. When the mouse passes over a point, it opens a pop-up with information about that person, such as name, address and job (if available). We chose an instagram-like display as a reference to "influencer". The number of followers could be replaced by the number of occurrences in the newspaper.

This is the sketch of the project Influencers of the past by Andrea Scalisi and Giacomo Alliata, EPFL 2019

Description

The idea of this sketch is to use the “Annuaire du grand monde Parisien (1884)” and the “Annuaire du grand monde Parisien (1908)”. The former is just a list of important people of 1884, with their addresses, and the latter is a little bit more interesting because it also contains other informations such as the job of these people, and also a list of subscribers to the Opera etc. With these lists, we could see who were the important people of the past, and display their addresses on a map. Hence we could observe the more fancy and costly neighbourhoods of that time.

A more advanced feature could be to check the number of occurrences of their names in the newspaper of that time, and find out who was the most famous.

An interactive map where red points represent important people addresses. When the mouse passes over a point, it opens a pop-up with information about that person, such as name, address and job (if available). We chose an instagram-like display as a reference to "influencer". The number of followers could be replaced by the number of occurrences in the newspaper.
